A public institution with CORE services that required a stronger technology foundation

A provincial decentralized autonomous government manages a growing volume of citizen information and institutional processes through its technology systems. Over time, the existing server infrastructure began to show limitations in capacity, performance, and availability, putting service continuity and compliance with regulatory requirements imposed by oversight authorities at risk.

Infodataserv — in its role as a certified Lenovo Partner and Synology Partner — designed and implemented a comprehensive solution that combined the deployment of new computing and backup infrastructure with the upgrade of technological components in the servers already installed.

Regulatory scope of the project: the institution needed to expand its capabilities for scalability, security, reliability, data integrity, and availability to maintain its CORE services in optimal conditions and comply with new reforms issued by Ecuadorian public-sector oversight authorities.

Four limitations that compromised institutional operations

Insufficient processing capacity

The existing servers could not meet the demands of institutional services, creating bottlenecks in information processing across the GAD's various operations.

Storage and backup without redundancy

The institution lacked a dedicated NAS backup solution, exposing institutional information to potential data loss caused by hardware failures.

Non-scalable infrastructure

The existing technology platform did not provide sufficient growth capacity to absorb the new requirements for digital services and public-sector regulations.

Regulatory compliance at risk

Reforms introduced by oversight authorities required standards for information availability and integrity that the existing infrastructure could not guarantee.

Two objectives that modernized the institution's technology foundation

1
Deploy new servers to strengthen the technology infrastructure

Deploy a high-performance server platform (Lenovo SR630) and a backup NAS solution (Synology RS1221RP+) to increase the processing capacity, storage, and availability of institutional services through a scalable platform prepared for future growth.

2
Upgrade existing servers to ensure operational continuity

Upgrade the technological components of the servers already installed to optimize their performance, extend their useful life, and ensure that CORE services continue operating with the levels of availability and reliability required by current regulations.

The five pillars that guided the design and implementation

  • High performance from day one: a server platform sized to support the current and projected workload of the GAD's institutional services
  • Scalability for future growth: an architecture that allows computing and storage capacity to be expanded without replacing the entire platform
  • Seamless integration: the new servers were integrated with the existing technology infrastructure while preserving service continuity throughout the implementation
  • Improved reliability and efficiency: upgrading components in the existing servers optimized performance without incurring the cost of replacing them entirely
  • Regulatory compliance ensured: the delivered solution meets the information availability, integrity, and security standards required by oversight authorities

Implementation and testing process carried out by Infodataserv

Infodataserv carried out the complete process, from upgrading the existing server to commissioning the new equipment, with operational tests confirming the proper functioning of each component before the formal delivery of the final technical report.

A technology platform that meets public sector requirements

At the close of the project, the GAD had a modernized server infrastructure, with greater processing and storage capacity, robust backup of institutional information, and a technology foundation prepared for growth and regulatory compliance.

Increased processing capacity

The new Lenovo SR630 server increased computing capacity to support current institutional services and accommodate future demand growth.

Professional information backup

The Synology RS1221RP+ NAS provides a dedicated backup layer with a redundant power supply, protecting citizen information against hardware failures.

Guaranteed operational continuity

Updating the components of the existing server optimized its performance and extended its useful life, preventing interruptions to the institution's CORE services.

Data security and integrity

The modernized platform expanded the security, reliability, and integrity capabilities of the information generated through the institution's various operations.

Scalable infrastructure

The resulting architecture allows computing and storage capacity to be expanded as the GAD's needs grow, without replacing the entire platform.

Documented regulatory compliance

A final technical report was delivered, certifying the implementation and serving as evidence for Ecuadorian public sector regulatory authorities.
