A national oncology institution that needed integrated information
One of Ecuador's most relevant healthcare organizations, with a presence across multiple provinces, needed to modernize the management of its internal operations. With an approximate annual operating budget of $10 million and locations in Pichincha, Chimborazo, Imbabura, Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, and Tungurahua, the institution faced the challenge of centralizing dispersed information between its medical system and its administrative and financial processes.
The lack of a unified enterprise management platform resulted in slow response times, inconsistencies in reporting, and difficulties in making real-time decisions, impacting both patients and their families as well as internal staff.
Two strategic objectives, one high-performance architecture
The client established two core objectives that guided the entire consulting, design, and implementation process.
Objective 1 — World-class system
Implement an enterprise-grade ERP that would ensure high availability, compatibility, and performance on mission-critical infrastructure.
Objective 2 — Cross-functional information control
Centralize institutional information across all areas: from the medical system to finance, inventory, procurement, and maintenance.
Hardware requirements
Power servers (RISC), SAN storage, Fibre Channel switches, and Intel servers for the virtualized environment.
Training for key users
Cross-functional training for the finance, inventory, procurement, and maintenance teams on the use of the new system.
End-to-end consulting, design, and implementation on a Power + Intel architecture
Infodataserv led the entire project, from the initial consulting and architecture design to implementation, functional validation, and training. The multidisciplinary team included JD Edwards consultants and technical specialists in Software, Power, and Storage, working directly with the client's IT team.
The solution deployed JD Edwards on an IBM Power 8 server running AIX as the operating system, integrated with the existing medical system and satellite applications for administrative management. The Intel virtualized environment with VMware ESXi complemented the architecture for additional workloads.
Deployed Infrastructure Specifications
A comprehensive functional and operational validation of the system was performed on the implemented architecture, including comparative performance tests between platforms and horizontal testing across all hospital units.
